Introduced in 2020, the Model Y was Tesla’s second crossover offering. Although it’s the smaller sibling of the Model X, it’s actually based on the Model 3 sedan’s platform and features a similar drivetrain and equipment. At launch, the Model Y was marketed as a premium EV with a usable range and respectable performance, all at a reasonably attainable price.
Power comes from a pair of electric motors, which draw electricity from a 80-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack to zap the four wheels with 384 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque, according to third-party estimates. The EPA gives the Long Range AWD variant a maximum range rating of 330 miles.
