Introduced in 2020, the Model Y was Tesla’s second SUV offering. Although it’s the smaller sibling of the Model X SUV, it’s actually based on the Model 3 sedan platform and features a similar drivetrain and equipment. At launch, the Model Y was celebrated as a premium EV with a usable range and respectable performance, all at a reasonably attainable price.
Power for this Model Y comes from dual electric motors, which produce 384 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. Connected to a 75-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, power is sent to all four wheels. The EPA gives the Long Range AWD variant a maximum range rating of 316 miles.
